Privacy notice

The site counts page views using self-hosted analytics software. The tracker script is served from this domain, and the measurements are stored on our own server rather than sent to an advertising network or a third-party analytics platform.

For each page view the analytics software records the page address, the referring address if your browser sends one, your browser's language preference, and technical details derived from your user-agent string such as browser and device type. To tell one visit from another without a cookie, the software derives an identifier by hashing the site identifier, the hostname, your IP address and your user-agent string.

That hash is what stands in for a session. It is not a login, it does not follow you to other sites, and it is not shared with an advertising network.

We do not set cookies for advertising, retargeting or cross-site profiling, and we do not embed third-party advertising tags, social network pixels or session-replay tools.

We do not ask you to create an account to read anything on this site, and there is nothing here to log into. We do not collect names, postal addresses, dates of birth, identity documents or payment details, and no page on this site should ever ask you for them. We do not sell data, and we do not build or buy audience segments about our readers.

Some links on this site lead to gambling operators, and some of those links are commercial. Outbound clicks leave through a redirect on this domain, and that redirect records the event on our own analytics: which brand was clicked, the page you came from, and your browser's language, together with the same hashed identifier described above. The event is recorded by our server as it issues the redirect.

Once you arrive at the operator's site you are on their infrastructure and under their privacy notice, not this one. They can see what any website sees about a visitor, and they may set their own cookies, including ones that record that you arrived from here so that a commission can be attributed. We have no control over and no access to their systems, their cookies or the account you may open there.

Before registering anywhere, the operator's own privacy policy is the document that governs what happens to your data there. It is worth reading, particularly the parts about identity verification, because that is where the sensitive data goes and none of it passes through this site.

The web server that delivers this site may keep standard request logs, which typically include the IP address, the requested page, the response code and a timestamp. These exist for security and for diagnosing faults, not for profiling readers, and they are not used for advertising.

The site is a static, content-only publication: no comment system, no forum, no newsletter sign-up and no contact form storing what you type. The only way to send us anything is by email, and an email is kept only as long as it takes to deal with it and to record any correction it produced.

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to ask what personal data an organisation holds about you, to have it corrected, to have it deleted, to object to how it is used, or to receive a copy of it.

The practical position here is that we hold very little that could identify you. The analytics identifier is a hash rather than a stored profile, and we cannot connect it to a name because we never collect one. That means a request to see your data will usually be answered with a description of what the site records and a confirmation that it holds nothing tied to your identity.

If you want to be counted less, an ad or tracker blocker that blocks first-party analytics scripts will stop the page-view script from loading, and the site works perfectly well without it. Most browsers also offer a do-not-track or private-browsing mode, though neither stops a server keeping its own request log.

If the way this site measures anything changes, this page is updated and the checked date at the foot of it moves. A change to what we collect will be described here rather than absorbed quietly into a longer document.
